Custodians of nature

You couldn't  ask for a more beautiful landscape of fields and woodlands with easy access on to the Ashdown Forest, which according to the famous children’s author, A. A. Milne, is the woodland that inspired his Winnie The Pooh stories.

Conservation of the natural beauty of the estate has always been important to us, and we invite all our guests to enjoy walking the footpaths around the estate. It’s possible that you’ll stumble across a herd of wild deer and our multitude of bird life.

History

Birch Grove is a Grade II country house and estate dating from 1926. It was the family home of the British prime minister Harold Macmillan, Earl of Stockton, who died there in 1986.

During Macmillan's time, Charles De Gaulle, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Nikita Khrushchev, Jawaharlal Nehru and John F. Kennedy stayed as guests at Birch Grove.
